There’s no doubt that UK brands are absolutely killing the game right now, with the likes of Corteiz, Drama Call and Broken Planet all seeing major success on both sides of the pond. Now, with London Fashion Week just around the corner, another legendary label is looking to capitalise on the scene’s success, as it's been revealed that Skepta will be relaunching his brand MAINS London during the event.
Skepta started MAINS London back in 2017, though it was a viral photo of both Skep and Naomi Campbell in MAINS underwear that took the brand to new heights a year later. The brand was stocked in retailers like Selfridges for a while until it was put on pause after what Skepta called an ‘amicable’ split with one of its manufacturers. Now, it's set to make its return part thanks to Puma, which has a long-term Global Ambassadorship deal with the rapper. This deal is said to include product design, so expect some of these to be unveiled on the off-schedule show in September.
Now, if you’ve been paying attention to Skepta’s recent moves, you’ll have spotted that he’s been frequenting the fashion show circuit, and has also been wearing MAINS London to non-fashion events like Wimbledon and the Silverstone GP. Speaking to Vogue Business about the brand’s relaunch, he said “We want to make blueprint pieces, and they have to be wearable. We’re not making something that will sit in Tate Modern, but we want to make pieces that will be in a vintage store in 100 years: we’re sowing the seeds.”
Skepta has also tapped new Chief Designer Mikey Pearce and graphic designer Johnson Orchid for the brand’s relaunch, and promises that the collection is full of “staple, crazy, beautiful, wearable clothes.” The presentation is set to take place on the 16th of September in London, so stay locked to The Sole Supplier for all the latest developments on this one!
