Trends are such strange things, aren't they? One minute, something can be old and dated, and just a few minutes later, they're the biggest fashion statement of the year. Whether you like it or not, the chunky dad shoe trend is here to stay, and this is what sneakerheads think of the infamous fad.
According to our Twitter poll, the majority of sneakerheads label the trend as "Pure trash". Coming in at 36%, many of you thought that chunky shoes are already out of fashion, and plenty of you just didn't like the oversized, over-detailed, and overcomplicated aesthetic from the likes of the Balenciaga Triple S.
On the other hand, 26% of you thought that dad sneakers are "Absolute fire". In fact, some of you stated, "At first they seem dead but you get used to them."; and "The fact that people hate it makes me like it more."; These are interesting points as it proves that hype is definitely not everything when it comes to these sneakers, and personal preference still plays a massive part in the game. You guys even flexed your Gucci Rhyton collection too.
The second biggest statistic came in at 28%, when Twitter users voted that they're "Still unsure"; about the infamous trend. One user explained, "I don't mind big shoes, it's nice to change it up every now and again. They don't work well on everyone though,"; giving the Yeezy 500 as a pair that might not look the best on everyone. This also harkens back to the previous point that personal preference still plays a huge part when it comes to sneakers. If they don't look good on you, it's hard to rock 'em.
Finally, a measly 10% said that they have "No opinion", proving once and for all that the sneaker community loves to express what they're feeling. That being said, one user stated, "AM 98's are the furthest I'd go tbh."; While the Nike Air Max 98 isn't exactly a chunky dad shoe when compared to, for example, the adidas Originals Yung-1 or the Nike M2K Tekno, it goes to show that some people are willing to try new things!
