Just like the 2002R before it, the 1906R seems to have become New Balance’s newest inescapable silhouette - which means there are plenty of variations in the pipeline. The retro-looking runner is well-versed in taking on some of this year’s biggest sneaker trends, but for the model’s latest outing, the Boston-based brand has added a number of practical touches, giving these two pairs more of a utilitarian look and feel.
This isn’t the first time the New Balance 1906R has been outfitted in Cordura fabric. Last year we saw a couple of colourways come in the hardwearing material. This time though, the brand has upped the practicality factor with the addition of zippered stash pockets that sit atop the laces and come made from a ripstop material.
Arriving in both “Mustard Yellow” and “Black” colourways, these pairs feature a mixed-material upper, as well as plastic caging around the heel for extra structure. Cordura branding hits call out to the techy textile elements, while an N-lock New Balance logo sits proudly on the sidewalls. Two-tone rope laces add a rugged-looking touch, and N-ERGY sole units and ABZORB heel cushioning ensure a comfy underfoot feel.
Peep a good look at the pairs right here, and be sure to set those release reminders to be the first to know when they drop.
Up next, the JJJJound x New Balance 991 could be dropping soon.
