The Jellyfish marks a significant success for adidas and Pharrell, becoming the duo’s most talked about creation since the NMD Hu line launched in the latter half of the 2010s. Every one of the three available colourways sold out immediately, and the initial release fetched prices soaring as high as £1,000 on reseller markets. Securing a pair at retail felt nearly impossible.
However, getting hold of this aesthetic might become simpler soon, as adidas plans to launch a different trainer built upon the identical original design.
The core inspiration for both models comes from the Adistar Cushion 3, a technical running shoe that debuted in the year 2000. adidas has rereleased the original retro runner without modifications, yet it has not generated the widespread excitement seen with the Pharrell partnership. Dedicated followers of the adidas catalogue will, however, identify the “XLG” designation, as the brand employs it to indicate exaggerated versions of popular trainers like the Samba and Superstar.
The forthcoming adidas Adistar XLG 2.0 bears a striking resemblance to Pharrell's Jellyfish, employing a comparable, exaggerated profile when reimagining the 2000 original. The two trainers share the identical substantial sole unit, and the structural markings on the two upper sections are virtually exact replicas.
The main distinction rests with the TPU overlays' size, which projects significantly more prominently from Pharrell's design. This difference in execution speaks to the designer’s original intent.
The adidas Adistar XLG 2.0 arrives on 5th February 2026. The initial launch plans feature a vivid Solar Orange colourway, but we expect further releases later, including versions in 'Black' and 'Grey'. The retail price sits at £120, exactly half the cost of the Jellyfish.
If you love the Jellyfish silhouette but could never justify the prohibitive price or fight the resale bots, the XLG 2.0 presents an obvious alternative. Secure your chance to pick up a pair at retail by clicking the 'Notify me' button right away.
