Few shoes are as nostalgic as adidas’ NMD - a style that had streetwear in a chokehold back in 2015. At the time, the NMD was the shoe to collaborate on, and even general releases had sneaker fans queuing around the block. Fast forward to 2022, however, and it had quickly become clear to adidas that the NMD was in need of reinvention. Though it had taken on various forms throughout the years, none had hit as hard as the OG. In order to save the sneaker’s legacy, the 3-Stripes launched the NMD S1 - a new look, chunky-bottomed version tasked with returning the style to its former glory.
Though the NMD S1 didn’t quite hit as intended, it still managed to keep the attention of some of adidas’ highest-profile collaborators. NEIGHBOURHOOD, for example, has four NMD collabs under its belt, yet the model still serves as a muse for its founder, Shin Takizawa. For his latest NEIGHBOURHOOD collab, he’s chosen to revisit the style yet again, although this time he’s given it a twist.
Here, the Japanese brand has cooked up two styles, with the NMD S1 forming the base for both. The first remains pretty standard - a stealthy black S1 gets updated with NBHD branding for those who prefer to play it safe. The second pair, however, is a whole different ball game, and sees the sporty shoe become transformed into a suede-covered, pull-on moc boot, with a bulky buckled fastening. Take a look at the two shoes below, and let us know if you can see yourself rocking the moc.
