We may be in the age of Gazelles and Sambas, but back in 1972, the adidas Tobacco was the OG sneaker flex. Now, after five decades in the archives, this iconic silhouette is making a triumphant return.
Over the past 50 years, this classic sneaker has popped up like a retro game console at a yard sale. But in 2025, adidas is bringing the heat, starting with the ‘Brown Desert’ colourway.
Think neutral light brown suede so smooth it could charm your grandma, paired with buttery leather accents on the stripes and heel tab. The Trefoil logo proudly sits on the tongue tag, while the flat midsole wrapped in grippy gum rubber screams, “I’m vintage, but make it cool.”
For months, adidas has been searching for the perfect sneaker to fill the sizeable void left by the Samba’s overwhelming popularity. The iconic German brand experimented with the SL 72 and found moderate success with the Handball Spezial. But could the Tobacco be the one to take the crown? Based on the upcoming collaborations, including a standout partnership with Tokyo boutique Atmos, it’s looking promising.
The adidas Tobacco ‘Brown Desert’ is available now on select retailers and will be set to dropping in the coming weeks through adidas, and the Confirmed app for £95. Keep an eye out for more colourways arriving soon and as always, stay tuned to The Sole Supplier.
