The adidas x International Space Station (ISS) collaboration is set to explore the realms of space like no other sneaker ever has. With this collaboration making the 3-Stripe brand the first label to test footwear in these specific conditions, it truly is one giant leap forward for BOOST.
adidas will be sending BOOST pellets and UltraBoost sneakers to the ISS National Lab. Astronauts will then aim to discover if producing midsoles with regions of different particle sizes are possible in zero gravity. With the hope of improving both comfort and performance, this venture could mark a new dawn for adidas and footwear in general.
“The unique conditions of space provide the ideal environment to discover the unknown,” explains ISS’ VP of Programs and Partnerships, Christine Kretz. “For example, microgravity is the only condition in which we can observe specific experiments like the behavior of a spinning soccer ball without interrupting airflow and external supports holding it in place. Having control of certain variables allows us to conduct tests and collect insights that aren’t possible on Earth.”
Set to launch early 2020, keep it locked to The Sole Supplier for all of the latest news on the International Space Station x adidas collaboration.
