For a guy who's a legend in skateboarding, Andrew Reynolds is finally getting his signature shoe with New Balance Numeric: the NM933. This isn't just another skate shoe drop; it's the result of Reynolds' history of taking classic, comfy shoes and making them work for skating.
Long before New Balance Numeric carved out its space in skate footwear, Reynolds was known for pushing the limits of what was considered skateable. While other skaters sought out shoes with grip and durability, Reynolds famously gravitated towards New Balance's "dad shoes"; those comfortable, often chunky walking sneakers. He made them his own.
The NM933 is a tribute to this history. It's a skate shoe that cleverly incorporates design elements from New Balance's iconic 99x series, resulting in a unique blend of heritage and performance.
Skating in shoes not designed for it has become a subculture in itself, almost a rebellious act. We've seen everything from Gucci loafers to other unconventional footwear being shredded for the sake of shock value and pushing boundaries. But the NM933 isn't just a novelty. It's a true skate shoe that delivers on performance and has that classic New Balance style we love.
Reynolds has streamlined the upper from New Balance's 99x series for a more skate friendly profile. The sole unit also draws inspiration from the 99x line, offering the cushioning and support needed for skateboarding while maintaining a clean look. You'll notice design cues like the smooth leather heel and stylised 933 branding, subtle nods to New Balance's legacy.
However, the NM933 isn't just a retro throwback. Key features like the thickly padded tongue and the grippy, flat outsole make it clear that this shoe is built for skateboarding.
New Balance Numeric has consistently delivered shoes that appeal to skaters and sneaker enthusiasts alike, boasting clean colourways and designs that transcend the skate park. The NM933 is no exception.
The New Balance 933 will be available on NewBalance.com starting on 28th April. While the full range of colourways has yet to be confirmed, keep an eye out for updates on New Balance Numeric’s website.
