The Nike Dunk Low has just gained a proper shield against the unpredictable British weather. After four decades and countless variations on the venerable silhouette, Nike has finally equipped the upcoming Dunk Low with a serious, full coverage weatherproofing, courtesy of GORE-TEX.
Over its long history, Nike has redesigned the Dunk many times. We have seen changes not only to the shoe’s colour combinations but also to its construction and materials. This latest alteration brings GORE-TEX right into the mix. This isn't the first time the water resistant material has appeared on a Dunk; it surfaced on the Dunk High 1 Piece and the Medicom Dunk Low previously; but we haven't seen a GORE-TEX Dunk since the latter of those two dropped way back in 2008.
The extensive branding on the upper confirms the special treatment. Look closely and you will spot a debossed GORE-TEX logo on the side of the toe box and the famous GORE-TEX tag hanging from the three dimensional synthetic Swoosh. Adding to the practical redesign, the toe box now lacks the traditional perforations; instead, a pressed pattern on the vamp prevents water from seeping into the shoe.
The new line launches in three distinct colourways, all scheduled for separate releases. The first to arrive today sports a deep chocolate brown base overlaid with light taupe panels and a generously padded white Nike Swoosh. While it’s certainly a spectrum of earthy tones, the result feels classic and far from dull. The Light Bone Brown colourway is available now, and we expect the Triple Black version to land on November 15th. Those looking to get their hands on the Light Crimson version will have to wait till next year!
Scarcity often fuels the desirability of a sneaker. While countless Nike Air Force 1s and Air Max models have regularly received the GORE-TEX waterproof membrane upgrade, the Dunk has not enjoyed the same luck, until now. Priced at £129, if you hope to secure the Triple Black or Light Crimson versions, make sure you hit that 'Notify me' button.
