Tom Sachs is back, and he wants you to stop staring at your feet. The latest NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe (GPS) in the ‘Bricolage’ colourway is finally hitting the pavement, and it is aggressively ordinary.

Most hype cycles last a season. Sachs and the NikeCraft team took ten years to produce a shoe that looks like it belongs in a “lost and found” bin from 1982. This isn't a mistake; it’s a manifesto.
In a world of neon foams and overengineered air bubbles, the GPS chooses to be the "do more sneaker." Sachs is pivoting away from the elitism of his Mars Yard series; those shoes that now cost more than a used hatchback; to create something for the rest of us.
The new colourway carries the ‘Bricolage’ moniker, a nod to the DIY philosophy of creating art from whatever is lying around the studio.
The engineering prioritises longevity over luxury. You get a three piece moulded sole for genuine support and a waffle tread with deeper lugs to handle everything you throw at them.
Sachs famously marketed these through the New York Times with a single word: Boring. The goal? To kill the clout chasing culture that treats sneakers like museum pieces.
This shoe belongs by your front door. It wants to be kicked off, stepped on, and stained. While the clean white and grey palette will definitely pick up marks, that’s the point. Every scuff tells a story, turning a mass produced tool into a personal sculpture.
At £100, the GPS is a rare bird in the current market: an affordable designer collaboration. Sachs wants these on the feet of teachers, doctors, and students, not just sitting on a plastic shelf in a reseller’s warehouse.
If you want to break necks at the next sneaker convention, look elsewhere. But if you want a reliable partner for the daily grind that actually improves with age, this is the one. It’s a "tool for living" that refuses to apologise for its simplicity.
The Tom Sachs x Nike General Purpose Shoe “Bricolage” releases tomorrow, i.e. 14 April via the SNKRS app and select retailers.Hit that 'Notify Me' button for your best chance at grabbing these for retail.
