It's a big year for South Korean streetwear boutique Kasina. Not only are they celebrating their momentous 25th anniversary, they'll also be reuniting with the Swoosh to commemorate the 35th birthday of the Air Max 1. After checking out the "Orange" colourway last week, we're now getting up close and personal with the Kasina x Nike Air Max 1 "Grey" - and here's what we know so far!
Unveiled by Dynamic Duo's Gaeko, Kasina's AM1 arrives two years after its coveted SB Dunk Low that dropped exclusively in Asia and sold out in an instant. Part of the "Better Together" Pack, this sneaker is an ode to the matrimony between Kasina and Nike, using wooden mandarin ducks known as kireogi to symbolise this union. Kireogi are traditionally given as marriage gifts because, unlike other duck breeds, they mate for life. If one of the pair passes away the other will mourn. While this might sound somewhat morbid, it represents the close relationship that the label has with the Beaverton brand.
Building on top of a dark "Obsidian" pebbled leather base, grey pony hair graces the top half of the Air Max sneaker, while the mudguards are decked out in supple suede. A crisp white Swoosh shoots across the lateral and medial side panels, and an even smaller one is finely embroidered around the toe area with orange flower detailing. A wooden deubre gives the collaboration a traditional look and feel, while "Nike" in hangul makes its way to the tongue tags. To round it all of, mandarin duck graphics fly onto the heels, finalising the design.
The Kasina x Nike Air Max 1 "Blue Grey" is set to land sometime in June, so make sure you smash those "Notify me" buttons for your best chance to cop. Let us know if you'll be going for these next month, and while you're here, you might as well take your first look at the Patta x Nike Air Max 1 "Orange"!
