New Balance continues to showcase the boundless versatility of the 1906R, a silhouette that has become the brand’s undisputed star. From loafers to deconstructed runners and everything in between, the 1906R has been reinvented time and time again. Now, New Balance appears to be preparing yet another iteration, with fresh images hinting at a utility inspired design set to debut in Spring/Summer 2025.
With so many variations of the 1906R, it's easy to lose track. To clarify, this release is not part of the 1906 offshoots like the 1906U, even though it shares certain design cues. Instead, this appears to be a standalone experiment retaining the 1906R branding.
Within this framework, however, New Balance introduces some exciting new features. The standout change is the addition of taped overlays, complemented by bungee closures, a rear pull tab, and fabric underlays; a nod to the rugged, functional aesthetic of gorpcore.
Though distinct in its details, this refreshed 1906R design echoes elements from recent collaborations, including the Basement and CAYL collections of 2024. This suggests some creative cross pollination between New Balance’s collab projects and its mainline releases.
The latest 1906R will debut in two clean colourways: "Black Cement/Graphite" and "Sea Salt/Grey Matter." Both pairs are expected to drop soon on NewBalance.com, though pricing details have yet to be announced. Stay tuned to The Sole Supplier for updates here and as more information becomes available.
