Since its debut on the 2002R in 2021, New Balance’s “Protection” or “Refined Future” pack has quickly become one of the brand’s most sought-after collections, so it's only fair that the Boston-based brand keeps the renditions going. Having applied the finish to the 1906R earlier this year, NB is set to continue refining the retro running silhouette and has readied two more versions - one in “Triple Black”, the other in “Triple White”.
Unlike the previous pairs, the upcoming versions swap out the pack’s primarily suede build for smooth leather. Though it retains a mesh base, and soft suede panelling still peeks through, it's the leather panels in the pack’s signature jagged design that work their way across the top of the uppers, delivering a premium look and feel that still manages to work in tandem with the pack’s edgy styling. Alongside this, the minimalist monochromatic make-ups offer a seriously sleek look, channelling somewhat of a COMME des GARÇONS vibe.
As expected from the techy runner, both colourways come equipped with ABZORB cushioning and N-ERGY sole units underfoot, as well as the same plastic caging and iconic N-Lock logos that have become defining features of the silhouette. Peep a look at the pairs below, and don’t forget to set your release reminders ahead of the launch later this year.
Up next, Sam Ross shares a look at the upcoming A-COLD-WALL* x Nike TN colourways.
