Following on from the release of the Air Max 95 OG “Neon”, Nike has unveiled a special edition that pays homage to the early design phases of this iconic sneaker. Enter the “Reverse Gradient” colourway; a fresh reinterpretation of the classic “Neon” design, featuring a flipped gradient that transitions from light gray at the mudguard to black at the collar.
This unique iteration showcases a textured, shaggier suede upper paired with the model's signature reflective details. Inspired by an original sketch from designer Sergio Lozano; conceptualised before the shoe debuted in 1994; this design has never been brought to life until now.
The “Reverse Gradient” was officially revealed on 8th April during an exclusive, invite only event at the MoMA Design Store in SoHo, NYC. Nike, in collaboration with NYC based filmmaker Ben Solomon, debuted a short film recounting the Air Max 95’s cultural impact. The film highlighted downtown New York’s style movements of the era, including staples like ski jackets, hip packs, and, of course, the Air Max 95. Following the screening, Nike surprised attendees by announcing the “Reverse Gradient” and offering an exclusive release to event guests.
While MoMA was the only storefront to initially stock this special colourway, a wider global release is just around the corner. Look out for these dropping soon on the SNKRS app and at select retailers. For all the latest on these sneakers and more, stay tuned to The Sole Supplier.
