Nike is sliding into Lunar New Year festivities with full force. First, they teased us with the Air Jordan 1 "Year of the Snake" edition, and now they’re striking again with the Mac Attack ‘Year of the Snake.’ While many celebratory sneakers have gone all out flashy for the Lunar New Year, Nike is keeping it cool with this silhouette.
For those unfamiliar, the Mac Attack debuted in 1984 and gained fame as the go-to sneaker of tennis legend John McEnroe. After returning triumphantly last summer in its original ‘Light Smoke Grey’ colourway, the silhouette has since been reimagined through coveted collaborations, including one with Travis Scott. Though the Mac Attack has been relatively quiet in recent months, the ‘Year of the Snake’ is a clear sign that the sneaker is gearing up for a major resurgence in 2025.
This latest iteration redefines the classic design with a clean, all white leather upper crafted from premium materials. It stays true to the vintage details that made the ’80s original iconic: perforated side panels for breathability, a mid-cut silhouette for added support, extra padding around the collar for comfort, and the signature checkerboard tongue tag. And, of course, the unmistakable Nike Swoosh is sweeping across the sidewall.
What truly sets the ‘Year of the Snake’ edition apart is its subtle yet striking snakeskin inspired detail on the heel. Wrapped in faux snakeskin and accented with elegant ‘Mineral Teal’ and ‘Melon Tint’ tones, the design is both fresh and versatile, making it perfect to wear year round; breaking the mould of traditional Lunar New Year sneakers.
Lunar New Year falls on 29th January, 2025, so you can expect the Nike Mac Attack ‘Year of the Snake’ to drop around that time.
Priced at £130, the sneakers will be available via Nike, the SNKRS app, and select retailers worldwide.
