Nike is changing how we buy trainers. The iconic sneaker brand just launched a new programme on the SNKRS app called SNKRS Reserve. This will give a select group of fans the chance to preorder highly sought after pairs before the official release. This move is a huge deal for us dedicated sneakerheads who have been demanding a preorder system for ages.
SNKRS Reserve kicked off on 24th August, a date celebrated as Kobe Bryant Day. For its debut, Nike offered a limited number of reservations for the unreleased "Christmas" Kobe 3 Protro. This new method provides two key advantages. For us, it’s a way to secure a pair we might've otherwise missed out on. For Nike, it provides them with immediate data, showing real time demand for specific styles. This helps the Oregon based brand gauge interest and manage its stock more effectively.
Nike has dabbled with similar ideas in the past, such as the experiment with preorders for some of the video game themed Dot Swoosh launches and the 3D printed Air Max 1000, though the name of SNKRS Reserve was never used. Other brands, like Aimé Leon Dore, have already used preorders for the New Balance collaborations. It looks like Nike is now fully committing to the concept.
While SNKRS Reserve offers ‘made to order’ products, it's not a free for all. Only a limited number of reservations are available, so you still need to be quick. You're charged only when your reservation is confirmed, and you can only make one reservation per account.
The launch of SNKRS Reserve wasn't the only event on Kobe Day. Nike also restocked a variety of sold out Kobe trainers, including the Nike Kobe 4 Protro Gold Medal, the Nike Kobe 6 Protro Dodgers, and the Nike Kobe 9 Protro Halo.
SNKRS Reserve is a game changer for anyone who has struggled to get their hands on a coveted pair. It gives us a genuine shot at copping a pair. How will it fare? Only time will tell! What we can tell you for certain is that downloading The Sole Supplier app will keep you filled in with all the latest news from the world of sneakers and more.
