Remembered for her self portraits, vibrant colours, and passion, the late Frida Kahlo is one of the most iconic artists of all time. Celebrated for her attention to Mexican culture and her depiction of the female experience, her works are as influential now as they were back in the early 1900s. Now, Vans is honouring Kahlo with a three sneaker collection that carries the same aesthetic as her world renowned pieces.
Comprising of the Sk8-Hi, the Authentic, and the Slip-On, all three models utilise a combination of premium materials and luxe finishes, with her artworks and murals gracing the uppers of each shoe.
The Sk8-Hi builds on a green upper that's crafted from a mix of leather with her 1939 painting Las Dos Fridas printed around the shoe's canvas section. The Authentic, on the other hand, is painted in vibrant orange and hues and is graced with an all-over print from Kahlo's still life work Viva la Vida from 1954. Finally, the Slip-On works on a black base and is adorned with her 1940 work Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird.
An absolute masterpiece of a collection, the Frida Kahlo x Vans Vault sneaker collection is set to hit shelves on June 29th at stockists such as Sneakersnstuff. Let us know which pair you're planning to pick up, and while you're here, take a look at the full Vans sneaker collection!
