Rumours of the Off-White x Air Jordan 5 "Black Metallic" have been going around for quite some time now, but this morning, Virgil Abloh officially confirmed its existence. Taking to Twitter, the American fashion designer tweeted "these Jordan 5s touch my soul", which is clearly a nod to his next Off-White x Nike collab. With that said, we're now taking our best look yet thanks to these images from sneaker insider @hanzuying!
Celebrating the AJ5's thirtieth anniversary, the "Black Metallic" features a charcoal-hued upper that's crafted from a series of translucent panels, bringing back Abloh's love of deconstruction. Other details include quoted text on the laces, a fully reflective 3M tongue, technical verbiage along the medials, as well as a pair of transparent circles on the side panels.
These photos also give us a closer look at the distinctive midsole. While sneakerheads were a little skeptical at first about its pre-worn look, we have to admit that it's growing on us. It's also a nice way to pay homage to the silhouette's three decade long history.
At this moment in time, pretty much nothing else is known about the Off-White x Air Jordan 5 "Black Metallic", but we expect Virgil to drop some more info very soon. In terms of a release date, our sources tell us that a February 2020 launch could be on the cards to coincide with All-Star Weekend. This hasn't been confirmed yet, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for more info!
