With great sadness, it has been announced that Off-White founder and legendary fashion designer Virgil Abloh has passed away following a battle with cancer.
The announcement first came today from the Abloh's Instagram page and has since sent shockwaves through the fashion community across the world. The post reads, "We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Abloh, a fiercely devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend."
Unbeknownst to many fans, Abloh was battling a rare aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma, and had been seeking treatment since his initial diagnosis in 2019. Despite his condition, the iconic designer still undertook projects within the fashion, art, music and cultural landscapes, making waves as he went.
After beginning his career in the fashion industry in 2009, he quickly rose to be one of the most influential and iconic members of the fashion industry due to his unique vision and passion for both art and design.
Our thoughts go out to his wife Shannon Abloh, his children Lowe Abloh and Grey Abloh, his sister Edwina Abloh, his parents Nee and Eunice Abloh and his friends and colleagues.
Rest in peace Virgil Abloh.
