There’s no doubt about it, Teddy Santis has been absolutely killing it as Creative Director of New Balance’s Made in USA line, with some of the brand’s best colourways to date having dropped since his first release at the start of the year. The designer’s partnership with the Boston-based brand stretches back a couple of years prior when Santis helmed a couple of collabs under his Aimé Leon Dore imprint. It was clear that creating clean and classic colourways was always a firm focus, and naturally, this has extended to the New Balance Made in USA 990 collection, too.
From the releases we’ve seen so far, picking a favourite colourway would be like picking a favourite child, so instead, we’ve pulled together three colour schemes that we can see becoming future classics. Check them out below, and let us know which iteration has topped your list!
Now, we love a 990v3 at The Sole Supplier, and this “Sea Salt” pair is easily one of the cleanest versions going. Swapping out the silhouette’s usual suede base for smooth leather, it’s slightly different from what you might expect from the model, but the end result is a stunning-looking pair that you can wear all year round. Crisp white leather overlays come perfectly married to grey underlays and a tonal mesh base, while pops of silver add a little retro flair.
Next up, the perfect earth-toned sneaker, the Olive 990v2 has got to be one of the strongest colourways yet. Also arriving across the 990v3, the tan, olive and navy palette has been featured across every Instagram mood board going, and for good reason. The combination offers a great neutral base that’ll go with just about anything, making for one absolutely timeless pair.
Finally, we saw Santis kick off the collection with the perfect homage to New Balance - a grey-toned colour palette reimagined for 2022, with hints of tan and cream adding a splash of something different to the “Marblehead” colourway. The grey overlays are crafted from hairy suede, while the tan heel tab features a subtly debossed logo for a premium touch. Having dressed the V1, V2 and V3, it was a strong start to the series and is sure to go down as a future classic.
