adidas SL 72 RS Utility Yellow

The archival adidas SL 72 RS returns to the adidas Originals catalogue in a myriad of old-school styles. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, this athletic trainer from 1972 pioneered the German giant’s SL (super light) series, built to deliver record-breaking speed on the track. Joining a handful of throwback colourways, the adidas SL 72 RS “Utility Yellow” exudes a sporty design approach with a vibrant colour palette that resonates with head-turning running shoes from the ‘70s.

Following a Wales Bonner collaboration, the adidas SL 72 runs it back with more general-release colour schemes in the roster. This “Utility Yellow” iteration incorporates a bright yellow nylon upper, fortified by hairy suede overlays to add structural reinforcement. Equally striking blue pigments highlight the leather serrated 3-Stripes on the sides and the Trefoil-decorated heel tab. The laces and the textured tongue also sport the same blue hue to pull off a two-tone colour blocking. A lightweight dual-density EVA foam midsole provides a nice blend of cushioning and stability, ideal for the urban traveller. The white rubber outsole with spiky treads wraps up the vintage-inspired makeover of these kicks.
