adidas Burnden II SPZL White Gum

The adidas Burnden II SPZL “White Gum” refines a quiet favourite within the SPZL archive, building on a silhouette inspired by the clean-cut training styles of the 1980s. Originally influenced by Jacques Chassaing’s work on models like the Powerphase, the Burnden returns with a sharper, more considered execution that leans further into its minimalist roots.

This updated version reworks the upper with a more traditional parallel eyestay, moving away from the experimental lines of the original. A wraparound toe overlay replaces the previous T-toe, flowing naturally with the tooling for a cleaner, more cohesive look. Premium white leather keeps things crisp up top, while subtle perforations across the toe box add breathability and balance to the design.

Underfoot, a gum sole with a hidden navy reservoir brings contrast without disrupting the all-white aesthetic. Finished with woven tongue branding and part of the SPZL SS26 collection, the Burnden II is a lesson in restraint — a carefully tuned evolution that proves sometimes the simplest ideas take the most work to get right.
