As the hype around the Samba starts to slow down, other adidas terrace classics are slowly on the rise in 2023. The adidas Handball Spezial dates back to late ‘70s Germany, a time when the silhouette was known for its top-tier performance among the Handball courts. This was until the casual subculture took hold of the shoe in the ‘80s, transforming the suede sporting favourite into a staple part of the uniform. Now in 2023, the Handball Spezial is a go-to for Instagram influencers, rising TikTok stars and anyone else who is tired of their now heavily battered adidas Samba.

This “Black Gum” iteration is arguably the cleanest of them all, boasting a simple suede upper with an iconic set of white 3-Stripes. Similar to the OG Samba colourways, the midsole is crafted from a dark brown rubber, however here with an adidas spell out and trefoil logo. Written onto the sidewall is “Spezial” in gold foil lettering, however, this is not to be confused with the Gary Aspden-lead Spezial division which tackles adidas’ special projects.
