New Balance 990v6 Grey Day Grey Navy

The New Balance 990 series has seen a massive uptake from both sneakerheads and fashionistas thanks to the Dad Shoe Trend of 2018. Since then, the silhouette has only sky-rocketed in terms of its popularity, even seeing a drought after the launch of the 990v5 during the updated release in 2019. With Version six now on the way, New Balance returns with a modern take on their infamous “Runners aren’t normal” Campaign in order to promote its release. While the shoe will boast a high price point, the 990v6 will undoubtedly see great success which New Balance expects. Prepping a variety of colourways means you and your not-so-normal self should hopefully be able to grab a pair.

This particular release doesn’t stray too far from the classic New Balance grey DNA, with its mudguard and lace panel adopting the traditional colourway. The navy jumps onto the web panelling system that provides the structure for underlying breathable mesh. Taking direction from the cream hits on the 990v4 Stussy x New Balance, the heel counter mixes beige tones that contrast the white midsole elegantly. The navy hits also make their way onto the lip of the sole, as well as the top eyestay and tongue. The branding on the tongue reads “new balance” in all lowercase, adopting the informality that the shoe embraces, as you can dress them up or down. The new “v6” is also a clever piece of logo design and reflects the newfound flow between the upper and midsole, which in hindsight, the v5 didn’t manage to do quite as well.
