Jordan Brand always shows appreciation to Michael Jordan’s alma mater, the University of North Carolina with UNC-inspired colourways. To coincide with the upcoming Air Jordan 1 High OG “University Blue”, this Air Jordan 1 Mid “Black University Blue” joins the growing UNC Air Jordan 1 roster.
The true definition of a timeless sneaker, the Air Jordan 1 pioneered the Air Jordan line in 1985 with Peter Moore as the designer. It was a risky and daring move for Nike to sign a rookie Michael Jordan, who is yet to play an NBA game. Before MJ rocked the AJ1, Nike equipped Jordan with the Air Ship, created by Air Force 1 designer Bruce Kilgore. The Nike Air Jordan 1 revealed MJ’s Jordan Wings logo and a more streamlined collar shape. This boosted the sales of Nike, leveraging the brand’s basketball division that was dominated by rivals before that period. Modern AJ1 styles now feature the Jumpman logo on the tongue and heel panel, this logo first came out in 1988 with the Air Jordan 3.
This colourway features a two-tone black and university blue combination. The perforated vamp, collar, and quarter panel come in black. University blue accents adorn the toe, eyestay, nylon tongue, and heel. The white rubber midsole and blue outsole complete this clean and classic UNC makeover.
