If you watched any of the Nice Kicks “Sneak Peek” videos during the early 2010s, then you will probably remember a number of people flexing their pair of Air Jordan 4 “Thunder”. During the mid-2010s, one of the common ‘grails’ for avid Air Jordan 4 fans was the “Thunder” edition. First released in 2006, and then again in 2012, it’s been over a decade since the colourway has been available on shelves, leaving OGs in need of a re-up and the new wave of Jordanheads eager for their first pair.
In 2021, we saw the AJ4 “Lightning” colourway receive a long-awaited retro, capturing the Air Jordan 4 hype at the perfect time. However, it wasn’t long before people were asking where the “Thunder” retro was, a shoe that was released during the same year. Now set to drop in 2023, hype around the silhouette is at an all-time high, with many keen to lace up this early 2000s colourway on their feet.
Similar to the AJ4 “Red Thunder” from last year, the upper arrives formed from a synthetic nubuck, unlike the premium nubuck found on the “Lightning”. Yellow mesh underlines the netting on the sidewalls and tongue, making sure the shoe is as breathable as Tinker first designed it to be. A Flight logo is sewn onto the tongue, while on the rear, a white embossed Jumpman stays true to its original ‘06 branding. Another important detail which closely follows the original ‘06 version is the shape of the bottom yellow support Wings, with small triangular side attachments that were not included on the ‘12 edition. Expect regular levels of Air Jordan 4 comfort, as these don’t include the cushioned upgrades that were added to the Nike SB x Air Jordan 4 “Pine Green” that dropped back in March.
While we don’t have an official release date, these are supposed to be dropping over in the US on May 13th, so hopefully the UK drop will follow shortly after. For more information on where to pick up the Air Jordan 4 “Thunder”, keep it tuned to The Sole Supplier!
