The Nike Air Max 95 arrives in a special-edition “Toronto” iteration, nodding to The Six’s eastern and western districts. This release sets the bar high for the new City Pack AM95s, blowing the ATL edition out of the water. Packed with easter eggs and a special edition box designed by Toronto-based artist Moya Garrison-Msingwana, there are plenty of reasons why this pair is worth adding to the collection.
The usual gradient leather panelling is found stitched across the sidewall, with a blue-to-purple gradient nodding to the city skyline. A matching Swoosh and coloured Air units also tie into the motif, a shade not too far off the “ Dark Beetroot ” make-up from ’22. The Air Max pill logos on each tongue are removable, peeling off the patches will reveal a “East Side” on the right foot and a “West Side” on the left which nod to the cities districts.
Some have speculated that the sockliner graphic is a nod to the snow-covered streets of Toronto in the winter, with the circular token logo reading “Valid For Toronto” nodding to the TTC (Toronto Transport Commission). On the heel is another subtle design nod, with the usual 3M spine detailing the CN Tower which is only visible when hit by light.
The packaging has also been given the special treatment, with Garrison-Msingwana’s artwork revealing the cities multicultural landscape. Inside comes a card which reads, Shoe of the city. City of the world.”, followed by a detailed description of the shoe. Just in case you aren’t a fan of the white laces, an extra set of black rope laces can be found inside.
