UGG enters the chunky shoe race with its new Lowmel trainer, becoming an instant sell-out with its first-ever drop. After dominating the cosy footwear scene with its signature selection of Boots and Slides for the past few years, UGG now fancies its chances with this bulky sneaker hybrid. Whether it’s the Tasman Slipper or the Classic Ultra Mini Braided Boot, the Lowmel is certainly a change in direction, yet one that still boasts the typical UGG aesthetic. Using the same sole from the UGG Neumel, the platform-style props you up with a few extra centimetres thanks to the SugarSole EVA outsole. Draped in the typical shade of brown, the mix of suede and mesh panelling hits the bulky trainer nail on the head while still keeping true to the brand’s DNA. Surprisingly, the laces are a real showstopper on the Lowmel, with its extra chunky form complementing the overall theme of the new silhouette. Fans of the UGG brand will know how rare the feature actually is given the enormous amount of laceless silhouettes in its range, playing a key part here in achieving that old-school sneaker look. A webbed heel strap still means these are easy to slip on, paired with a large foot opening that’s made extra comfy by the oversized padded tongue and collar. An embossed UGG logo sits on the heel, with a mesh toe box making sure your feet don’t get too toasty. It’s worth bearing in mind that the pair arrives with an extra set of laces, just in case you’re not feeling the current brown and cream set.
