Jerry Lorenzo’s relationship with adidas has certainly had streetwear fans talking over the past 12 months, as the relationship between the two parties seems to be changing all the time. While we’re still awaiting anything official from the duo, rumours of a collaborative shoe surfaced over the weekend, though this was quickly shut down by the FOG designer.
Lorenzo joined the Three Stripes towards the end of 2020, and was first seen wearing a collaborative piece in December 2021. Initial pieces were then revealed at an exhibition in Shanghai shortly after, but as of yet, something has yet to be available to buy. Alongside his project with ESSENTIALS, Lorenzo was also slated to head up the brand’s basketball division. However, when adidas dropped its “Remember the Why” basketball campaign, Lorenzo was quick to deny any involvement - even though the collection was undoubtedly ESSENTIALS-eque. Taking to Fear of God ESSENTIALS Instagram page, he wrote:
"Jerry Lorenzo and Fear of God are not involved or connected to the adidas Basketball “Remember The Why” campaign and collection launching this holiday season. The partnership between adidas and Jerry Lorenzo has evolved over the past two years to a concentrated focus on the creation and development of Fear of God Athletics."
The shoe that surfaced arrived in a mid-cut design and familiar hues of black and cream, and featured a midfoot strap and Lightstrike foam sole. Most importantly though, there was clear and obvious 3-Stripe branding, as well as a Fear of God wordmark on the heel.
Speaking to Complex about the leak, Lorenzo stated: “This is not the basketball sneaker from Fear of God and adidas,” Lorenzo said of today’s leak, adding that the Fear of God x adidas performance sneakers and ready-to-wear collections will be officially unveiled on April 19 during the Hollywood Bowl showing of Fear of God’s 8th Collection.”
While the shoe isn’t necessarily fake, it could just be a super-early sample that didn’t make it into production.
What do you think about the shoe? Is it something you’d liked to have seen within the collection? Let us know, and in the meantime here's everything we know about the Carhartt x Nike SB rumours.
