If you thought The Last Dance supercharged hype for the Air Jordan 1, then think again. According to Variety, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will be teaming up to create a film about Nike's relentless pursuit of Michael Jordan during the '80s. Made in production with Amazon Studios, Skydance Sports, and Mandalay Pictures, the story is one that we all know like the back of our hands now, but we have yet to see it on the silver screen.
After their 1997 film Good Will Hunting, which won two Academy Awards including Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay, Affleck and Damon quickly gained A-lister status. Over the past 25 years, the dynamic duo have worked on various projects together, both as actors, directors, producers, and writers.
According to the report, Affleck will play Nike co-founder Phil Knight, while Damon will take on the role of Sonny Vaccaro, a renowned sports marketing executive. The movie will focus on the Beaverton brand's journey to sign MJ, a task that proved next to impossible especially at a time when he had his sights set for adidas and was wearing Converse religiously. Both Affleck and Damon are set to co-produce the feature film, with the former also sitting on the director's chair as well. At this moment in time, there's no news on who will play His Airness himself, but we'll find out within the coming months.
