Care and Maintenance Hoodies are pretty low-maintenance compared to other more delicate types of clothing. A high quality hoodie will stand the test of time so long as you properly care for it. Here are a few general dos and don'ts that apply to most hoodies:
Wash your hoodie after every four to seven wears to keep it fresh. Always read the instructions on the label when it comes to washing and drying your hoodies. Wash in cold water - 30°C or below. If you're really concerned about shrinkage, hand wash it to be safe. Wash your hoodie inside out to keep colours and graphics vibrant and drawcords safely tucked away. If using a washing machine zip up any zippers so they don't catch on other garments in the wash. Give your hoodie a gentle stretch when it comes out of the wash to help it get back into shape. Avoid tumble drying even if the label says it's fine. It's just not worth the risk of shrinking. Air drying is the key to long lasting hoodies. Don't dry your hoodie in direct sunlight as it can quickly fade the colour. Hoodies don't usually require ironing but if you do we recommend ironing it inside out to protect the outside materials.
Why Should You Trust Us? I cover men's clothing here at The Sole Supplier, and my expertise lies in streetwear. I wear hoodies almost every day during the cooler months, and I have a vast collection consisting of numerous brands.
For this test, I considered hoodies from a number of brands, both established and up-and-coming. I also consulted the rest of our writing team to find out what their favourite hoodie brands were and remove any personal bias.
After settling on a shortlist of 15, I tested each hoodie during a regular workday. During the test, I was primarily looking at the following key elements:
Comfort: One might think that comfort doesn't differ much between brands for casual garments like hoodies, but this is actually the most immediately noticeable differentiator between a good hoodie and a great hoodie. The best hoodies featured on this list are incredibly soft and provide top-notch comfort all day. Fit: This can be subjective; some people like baggy oversized hoodies, while others have a preference for a more fitted feel. Personally, I land somewhere in between these two extremes. I like my hoodies to be roomy for the added comfort, but they should still fit well in the length and sleeves. If a hoodie completely swallowed me or wasn't well-proportioned, it was an instant 'no'. Quality: Goes hand-in-hand with comfort, but when it comes to quality, I am also looking for premium materials that are going to retain their shape when washed and stand up to the rigours of day-to-day wear. Quality obviously comes at a cost, so I am also looking at value for money. I am happy to pay a premium for a hoodie as long as I am paying for quality and not just for a brand name. Design: The most subjective of the four key factors. Do I like how it looks? Is the design versatile enough for me to wear around the house, to the office and to a casual gathering with friends? Does it come in an interesting range of colours? At the end of the day, a hoodie can be as comfortable, well-fitting and high quality as they come, but if I don't like the design I'm never going to wear it. All of these elements played a part in my final rankings. The hoodies on this list were all tested and considered to be excellent within these areas.
