Nike is one of the biggest brands globally known today, notably in the sports industry and in various fields such as music, art, and fashion. What started in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight manufacturing athletic shoes turned into what is now a multinational corporation delivering more than just Swoosh-labelled products.
The brand wouldn't be where it is today if it wasn't for the members around it, and the label has celebrated its success in numerous ways throughout the years that we're sure you're familiar with or even taken part in.
Whether you're a sneakerhead, a dedicated athlete, or just someone who has been following the Swoosh brand and its journey until today, you're in for a surprise as Nike's 50th anniversary is just around the corner.
The sneaker community saw a massive increase of collectors over the recent years, naturally leading to higher demand for popular sneaker models like the classic Nike Air Force 1s, Michael Jordan's legendary Air Jordan 1, Tinker Hatfield's Air Max 1, and many more.
The demand for these trainers showed no signs of slowing down, and Nike never failed to meet these demands through the restock of OG colourways, archived revivals like the Nike Dunk or Air Huarache, and high-heat collaborations, plus more. And with Nike's 50th-anniversary celebration coming up, we do not doubt there are covetable designs exclusive to Nike members that you definitely won't want to miss!
If you aren't into collecting expensive sneakers, Nike's community events have always been jam-packed with members-exclusive surprises and opportunities to meet like-minded people. The famous Nike Run Club app launched in 2010 has encouraged countless people to continue reaching their healthy lifestyle goals through guided workouts, custom coaching plans, and local running events.
The Nike 50th anniversary event is scheduled with fitness in mind, so members can look forward to live training sessions and other workout-related activities scheduled at Nike EHQ on the NRC app!
Nike has also given creative artists the opportunity to participate in workshops and competitions. One of the Nike events unforgettable to many was the RevolutionAirs in 2017, where 12 streetwear creatives re-designed the Air Max model and put it forward for the community to decide which pair deserved to release to the public. The result saw the birth of Sean Wotherspoon's Air Max 1/97 hybrid shoes, which holds grail status to many dedicated Nike sneaker collectors.
The same year also saw the "Off-Campus" creative design workshops in London hosted by the late Virgil Abloh to launch his now-legendary Off-White x Nike "THE TEN" collection.
Not to forget that we also visited NikeTown London during the last Christmas holidays, where the store offered its shoppers the "Nike By You" service that allowed them to personalise their products of choice.
Whether or not you were part of these, sit tight as Nike's 50th anniversary will unlock opportunities for its members to get creative and customise their own Nike trainers via the "Nike By You" system.
Starting on the 16th of May, Nike will celebrate its 50th anniversary with member-exclusive releases such as limited-edition Nike Waffle Ones, fully-customisable shoes that includes the Air Max 97 "By You", community challenges, free shipping on orders, and many more!
So if you're still not a Nike member, be sure to check to sign up here today so that you don't miss out on the best members-only releases next week!
