As Ye (formerly Kanye West) prepares to make a musical comeback with his "Vultures" project, it seems the man just can't quite stop making contentious decisions. Following last year's backlash, Ye has now taken to X to name controversial designer Gosha Rubchinskiy as the new YEEZY Head of Design.
The post from @kanyewest read, “YEEZY welcomes Gosha Rubchinskiy as its new Head of Design today. The arrival of this legendary Russian designer at Yeezy, the pre-eminent global brand in music and fashion, is a milestone in design history.”
As the designer behind PACCBET and more, Gosha climbed to streetwear fame between 2008 to 2018 with his skate-inspired designs. In December 2018 however, a 16-year-old boy accused Gosha of pressuring him into sending explicit photographs of himself, leading to the designer's downfall. While the incident is still alleged, it's evident why this could be viewed as a controversial move by Kanye West, especially when he's got quite the image to rebuild himself.
In addition to his new Head of Design role, Gosha is said to have also participated in the cover design behind the upcoming Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign album Vultures. Once again, we're left wondering just what exactly Kanye has up his sleeve next, but I guess that means the marketing is working. Up next, Travis Scott and John McEnroe's Cactus Jack x Nike Attack is a meeting of minds.
