Not just content with taking over the lifestyle market, technical footwear brand Salomon managed to infiltrate the high fashion sphere faster than you could say “Gorpcore”. As well as recently teaming up with COMME des GARCONS, the French label has joined forces with Maison Margiela’s MM6 line on a couple of occasions now, with its FW22 footwear set to land soon.
Though the duo’s SS23 collab consisted mainly of thigh-high styles, Salomon fans will be pleased to be reminded that the FW footwear was much more practical. The MM6 spin on the sneakers still afforded some high-fashion touches, but underneath the exaggerated exterior, you could still make out the function-first properties of the XT-6 and Hike 2 silhouettes.
The collaboration arrives in two styles - a high top and a low top - which both come in multiple colourways. The high-top version resembles a boot and features a split-sole unit that comes with chunky lugs and an Energy Cell-infused heel. From here, nylon and suede uppers manage to remain reminiscent of Salomon’s usual style, and a Quicklace system ensures a snug, secure fit.
The low-top version looks a little more like the fan-fave XT-6, only this time the uppers come wrapped in a shroud that extends to just over the ankle, again fastened with Quicklace. Featuring a similar sole unit to that seen on the boot, the low-top also sees TPU taping and leather accents wrap their way around the lower half of the upper, which adds a premium yet techy look and feel to the collaborative silhouette.
As the colder weather draws in and the need for technical trainers increases, we’re hoping to see these land over the next few weeks, but be sure to keep it locked to The Sole Supplier for all the latest release info.
Up next, here's why UNDERCOVER and Nike's new Air Force 1 is the perfect winter sneaker.
