Ever wondered just how Kanye became Kanye? Titled “JEEN-YUHS,” a Netflix documentary has been in the works for a while, and now it’s finally been given a release date. First premiered at Sundance Film Festival, the docuseries spans 21 years of Ye’s career and gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the rapper’s life and creative ventures, in turn exploring how Ye became one of the greatest artists of our time.
Ahead of the February release date, Netflix have shared a new trailer for the series that teases some key points in Ye’s journey to the top. Amongst these are clips of Ye in the studio with Pharrell, and backstage footage from “The Life of Pablo” listening party. The documentary is also set to cover Ye’s recovery from a near-fatal car crash, his failed presidential bid, and the death of his mother, Donda West, showcasing the highs and lows that have led to him becoming the artist he is today. It’ll also explore his ventures into fashion, so it’s likely we’ll be treated to some behind-the-scenes looks at processes behind the Yeezy brand, too.
Although Kanye does not have any creative control over the documentary, the series is being brought to life by Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah. The pair are frequent collaborators of Ye’s, having worked some of his early music videos, and have had exclusive permission to document Ye's career from the beginning.
“JEEN-YUHS” is set to launch in three parts and will be available to watch on Netflix from February 16. In the meantime, check out the new trailer below.
Up next, Yeezy Gap is to join forces with Balenciaga later this year.
