After ending its partnership with Ye (formerly Kanye West) last year, adidas continues to offload the rest of its Yeezy stock. Within these drops, we’ve seen a tonne of restocks, as well as the occasional new model like the 450 Slide and Utility Boot, but for every 350 Boost colourway there seems to be a new, unseen model that never made it to market. Now, thanks to Instagram user chaseseesghosts, we’re getting our first proper look at a Yeezy Samba - a shoe that would no doubt have caused a stir had the brand gone ahead with a release.
It’s probably no surprise that these original Yeezy 150 Samba samples date back to 2019, because no matter what you think of Ye, it’s hard to deny that he’s always been ahead of his time. It’s no surprise then, that in true Yeezy fashion, the style manages to lean into more trends than one - the chunky-looking pair both pays homage to the Samba’s history in both football and skate culture. With both Sambas and skate shoes trending hard for 2023, could we have seen these styles ushered in earlier had this pair dropped?
As for the pair itself, the execution can be likened to that seen on the Yeezy Powerphase, as really it's just another adidas classic that’s gone under the knife. While the Powerphase came with Calabasas branding, the Yeezy 150 Samba nods to Ye’s new-found home of Wyoming, with gold foil hitting the sidewalls, and the rest of the shoe’s upper comes crafted from plain black suede. The biggest change to the OG model is the gum sole that sits underfoot, which may well have paved the way for the Samba XLG, which drops later this year.
While we would be interested to see how these would perform in this Samba-centric market, it’s very unlikely that the Yeezy 150 Samba will ever see a release. However, check out the images of the pair below, and check out the full list of the Yeezys that will see a release this month.
