What was once a nu-metal and dad exclusive of the '90s and '00s is now a trending thing in streetwear - who would have thought? We are, of course, talking about jorts, a clothing staple that's seen a monumental rise in the scene so far this year.
Jean shorts, jorts, denim shorts - whatever you want to call them are easily one of this year's biggest trends, so before you go and rock your best Adam Sandler-inspired fit, we thought we'd give you a few tips on how to navigate this Y2K revival to avoid any would-be denim disasters.
We guess the whole point of the jort revival is to relieve an era once forgotten, and by that, we're not referring to the early 2010s Topman epoch of ripped light wash numbers. In this day and age, jorts are supposed to be baggy, so it's imperative you avoid any tight-fitting thigh risers to truly nail this look.
Instead, try aiming for your jorts to fit below the knee. We know you're likely going to feel uncomfortable in the beginning, but if John Cena can do it, you can too.
Naturally, once you've got the jorts nailed, your next thought is going to be what to pair them with. Traditionally speaking, your fattest pair of DC or Airwalk kicks would have likely been your choice, but in this day and age, you can't go wrong with a dadcore New Balance staple.
Chunky styles work great for reinforcing the whole Y2K aspect of the outfit, but that's not to say your average runner won't do the job, either. Remember, the classic dad at the bbq fit is a look, and don't let anyone else tell you any different.
Now, if you're looking to be really on trend this summer, you could try pairing your jorts with another one of the other bigger style movements of the season. Partially due to the whole blokecore thing, sportswear styles and football shirts are all the rage at the moment, and with the right fit, you can easily rock these looks with your new denim ventures. Don't worry if you don't have a repertoire of retro Kappa shirts in your wardrobe, a classic Nike tee or hoodie will easily do the trick.
For the more daring amongst us, you can even try and inject a bit of prep style into your outfits. The whole juxtaposition between jorts and prep looks might seem a bit baffling to begin with, but once you see just how good a classic sweater vest pairs with denim shorts, you'll soon change your mind.
So if you are looking to hop on this trend, heed our advice and check out ASOS' selection on-site. With a multitude of brands and styles available, it's truly got a pair of jorts for everyone.
