Summer never seemed to accumulate into anything, did it? However, it’s nearly September so that means we’re back crushing on sweatshirts and Dr. Martens for the foreseeable future. Although, with online stores lacking stock due to one thing or another, we bet you’ve noticed a change in the amount of things you like in your size. We certainly have! This means you’re going to have to be on the ball if you’re to cop everything you want for you AW21 wardrobe. To get ahead of the curve, we’ve put together a list of everything that will be trending for the rest of the year, so you don’t have to worry about what’s hot and what’s really, really not. Taking a mixture of what has been appearing time and time again on the catwalk, as well as the odd bits and bobs that are popping up on retailer websites already, keep reading to be on your A game next season.
Look, summer was pretty much non-existent, so we’re trying to hold onto as much sun as possible. Designers such as Gucci, Prada, Versace and Bottega Veneta (*that* green is going to be SO in next szn, grab all the items you can now!) all flaunted brightly coloured garms on the runway - and we can see why. A lot of us have been a bit down in the dumps with everything that’s been going on, but colourful clothing has been proven to lift spirits and add positivity into our lives. Of course, if a full-on, sunshine-yellow suit feels a bit too much right now, then feel free to balance out the brights with the neutrals. Maybe start with coloured-blocked accessories, before committing to having your whole outfit decorated in the same shade.
Yes ladies, the puffer is going nowhere. This year they are back bigger and better than ever, and although it seems a little early to be thinking about this year’s winter coat, our best advice is that if you see something you like now, snap it up quick. Guaranteed, if you wait until it actually gets cold, all the nice ones will have been taken. It may seem like you’re clinging onto that daily-walk chic that we’re trying so hard to forget, but we’re suckers for function as well as fashion. Long-line coats are due to take our nation by storm, with the likes of Raf Simons and Balenciaga making them a staple part of their winter collections for 2021/2022.
Hello! We have places to go and people to see, so need to be able to fit our entire lives in our handbag. How has this trend not come sooner?! Super XL handbags are going to be in, in a big way. So out with those tiny, micro purses and in with practicality. We’ve been hitting the shops a lot more since the end of lockdown, so we will happily invest in another shopper tote to help us carry all our new goodies. I wouldn’t be so hasty as to get rid of those little purses though, they’re bound to be back next summer.
Ready to be dressed up with your favourite pair of heels, or down with a beat-up pair of kicks, the suit is here to stay for autumn 21. Whether you prefer that oversized, androgynous look, or something a little more fitted ready for a night out on the town, you HAVE to make a suit a part of everyday wardrobe. We love ours with a plain white tee and a pair of New Balance, but you literally have free rein as to how you want to style yours. Be warned however, fashion buyers and stylists have already been stocking up on their faves ahead of fall, for fear they’ll be gone by the time we reeeeeally want them. We already know that ’80s fashion is dominating our wardrobes once again, so the oversized suit style shouldn’t come as a surprise to many.
Crocheting has become *the* hobby to have over lockdown, but the trend isn’t slowing down next season. As seen on Kylie Jenner, this is definitely a trend IG stars will all be donning come September, albeit in a different way to how they might on a trip to the Bahamas. The increasing amount of arts-and-crafts small businesses has definitely helped in creating this trend, and it’s something that big-name designers such as Chloé and Dolce & Gabbana jumped right on board with ready for FW21.
It goes without saying that Docs will be a staple this winter, but it might be less known that our favourite Y2K look is making a massive comeback: the UGG boot. Don’t believe us? Well, just you wait until November when you’re dying for a pair but are unable to get your hands on them. Don’t say we didn’t tell you so! If you’ve got a little more cash to splash, then let it be known that Burberry is already killing AW21 fashion, so you might want to take a look there. What we’ve learnt ahead of the new season is that people are desperate to get back to normal and get dressed the f*ck up! It’s out with the trackies (awp, we love ours) and in with the pant suits, because it’s back to biz, baby!
