Nike is raiding its vault, and while the OG Air Max 95 "Neon" was the headliner at the SNKRS Holiday showcase, the Air Max Plus is also getting a taste of that sweet, sweet retro revival. We've got our first look at the Air Max Plus "Eclair (Lightning)," and it's a welcome blast from the past, set to electrify Summer 2025.
It's no surprise this silhouette is surging back; it's the Air Max Plus's 25th anniversary, after all. And from what we can see in these official images, Nike isn't playing around; this looks like a faithful, 1:1 reproduction of the 2000 release.
For those who remember the original, the "Eclair" (or "Lightning," as it's also known) is unmistakable. It's all about that all over upper print: vivid, crackling strikes of lightning set against a deep midnight navy base. The navy extends to the laces, really emphasising the electric storm effect. Reflective silver Swooshes add a flash of contrast, while that translucent blue TPU cage gives the shoe its signature aggressive edge. And, of course, it wouldn't be an Air Max Plus without the iconic Tuned Air technology, which gets a pop of red accenting, mirrored on parts of the outsole.
This is a sneaker that captures a specific moment in time, a bold statement from the turn of the millennium that still resonates today. The combination of that striking graphic, the aggressive lines of the upper, and the futuristic Tuned Air tech makes it a design that's both of its era and surprisingly timeless.
While we're still waiting on the official release date, the Nike Air Max Plus "Eclair" is expected to drop this summer through SNKRS and select Nike retail partners. Don't sleep on this one; it's a chance to snag a piece of Air Max history.
