Given the rise in popularity surrounding running, Nike's Alphafly range will no doubt be a familiar name for many pavement pounders across the globe. The first rendition of this silhouette first landed on all of our radars back in October 2019 when Eliud Kipchoge broke the two-hour marathon barrier. Since then, the silhouette has become a firm favourite among the hardcore running community. Now, returning for a third outing, the Nike Alphafly 3 is here and ready to take the running world by storm.
With Bret Schoolmeester, senior product director of Nike running footwear, at the helm, the Alphafly 3 has been designed to be Nike's most advanced marathon running shoe ever. In preparation for its release, Nike enlisted a total of 300 elite and regular runners for feedback - Nike's largest testing pool ever.
Having already set a new marathon record when on the feet of Kelvin Kiptum in Chicago this year, it's fair to say the Alphafly 3 is truly the best of the best, but why is that? Well, for starters, you have to consider the shoe's weight (or lack thereof). A men's Size 10 in the Alphafly 3 weighs just as little as 7.7 ounces (or 218 grams), making it among some of the lightest running shoes on the market.
Other technical aspects include a disjointed forefoot and heel. Differing from the previous two Alphafly models, this latest design is built for smoother heel-to-toe transitions. In addition, the placement of Air Zoom units has been altered, subsequently feeding more energy back into the runner.
Truth be told, those are just a few of the highlights surrounding the Nike Alphafly 3, but the amount of technology that has gone into something that weighs so little is genuinely quite difficult to comprehend. For those looking to try and get their hands on a pair, the Nike Alphafly 3 will be released on the 4th of January. This release will no doubt be very sought-after, so be sure to click 'Notify me' below for a release reminder.
Up next, Fear of God Athletics is here and it looks like something out of a science fiction film.
