Nike has finally arrived with footwear that solves the hybrid athlete puzzle. The fitness industry has seen a noticeable shift over the past 10 years, moving from a bodybuilding focus to the constantly moving hybrid athlete. However, with that change comes a need for different shoes, a need that Nike wants to solve with its new Hybrid series.

The pinnacle of fitness bro no longer requires you to hit the Zyzz dance at raves, and while that remains fairly epic, a wicked-fast Strava time is much cooler. Even cooler still is a competitive Hyrox time, but that really depends on who you ask.
Having status in the Hybrid world means you need to be strong, mobile and quick - all on the same day. Achieving this is not only a challenge for the body, but also a difficult venn diagram for a shoe to fit into. Stability and speed don’t often go hand-in-hand when it comes to midsole technology, but Nike may have just solved this with both the Hybrid RN and Hybrid Fly.
"Hybrid asks a lot more of a shoe than road running does", says Lauren Weeks, Nike world-champion hybrid athlete. "You're constantly switching between running and strength movements, so it makes sense to wear something solely designed for both. Having a shoe that can handle those demands lets you focus on your race or training instead of thinking about your footwear".
Unlike the Metcon series which provides ample stability and ground feel, the Hybrid will also tick off the speed element, making these ideal for the multi-sport athletes among you. According to Nike, the Hybrid Fly is built for the unique demands of hybrid racing and engineered for competition, so for all the Hyrox competitors, this will be the shoe for you.

These won’t be hitting the shelves until April 2027, so there is still somewhat of a wait for the Hybrid Flys. But expect to see the top athletes racing in them at the upcoming Birmingham, London and Manchester Hyrox events between now and then.
As for every-day training, the Hybrid RN “combines ReactX foam and a forefoot Air Zoom unit to create a smooth, responsive ride while maintaining the stability athletes need for lifts.”
The Nike Hybrid RN is already available in China, so unless you fancy a not-so-quick journey over to secure these, they will be available globally on the 8th of October via the Nike website. Although the Nike Hybrid Fly won’t be releasing until April 2027 next year, so be sure to set up release reminders for that drop.
As for pricing, the Hybrid RN will retail for £129.99, so we expect the Hybrid Fly to cost between £170 and £220 - especially given the comparisons to the aesthetic and technological comparisons to the AlphaFly.
