It’s been just over a year since Virgil Abloh sadly passed away, but the hardest-working man in fashion still seems to have had a few tricks left up his sleeve, with a whole host of releases still set to see the light of day over the next year or so. Around the time of the anniversary of his passing, Abloh’s wife Shannon sat down with the New York Times to discuss her late husband’s empire, as well as the projects we can still expect to see from the designer over the months to come.
Having set up a company, Virgil Abloh Securities, to help the family retain control of his artistic vision, Shannon has been working closely with Virgil’s former collaborators to make sure his existing projects are still executed in the right way. This includes his long-standing partnership with Nike: Shannon gave the Swoosh the go-ahead to continue releasing products under the partnership last year, and told the NYT that Virgil had left “at least a year’s worth of Nike projects in the pipeline’.
A year’s worth of Nike shoes isn’t the only thing we have left to look forward to either. Shannon went on to say that there were “at least a hundred projects that he worked on and never put out. Alongside these, Mrs. Abloh will be looking to a four-day festival under the direction of Virgil Abloh Securities and Nike, that she hopes will become an annual event that will coincide with Miami Art Week. The festival will be designed to celebrate his life and will include discussions and workshops, as well as musical performances and a skateboarding competition. Alongside all of this, the couple’s business advisor was quoted as saying they “were on a 50-year plan”.
The upcoming festival and exhibition are expected to coincide with the release of the upcoming Off-White x Nike Air Terra Forma, so be sure to check out the style's official images.
