Cast your mind back to Paris Fashion Week in 2019, and you might just remember getting a first glimpse at the Virgil Abloh and Futura Laboratories x Nike Dunk Low collab. The pairs have seen their fair share of release rumours over the past few years (the last rumour was 2022, when they were slated to drop on Abloh’s birthday), but it seems that fans will now finally have their chance to get their hands on a pair - and perhaps for less money than first thought.
Dropping in two colourways - a UNC-inspired blue and white and an orange and navy pair - the collaborative Dunks blur lines between Abloh and Futura’s creative design languages. Pairs boast typical Off-White detailing and well as a secondary lacing system, as well as graffiti-style uppers and FL branding to the heel.
Set to be auctioned off at Sotheby’s, eight pairs will be sold with the proceeds going towards the Virgil Abloh Foundation. According to the auction info, this will be the only opportunity for the public to be able to grab a pair. Speaking on the auction, the late designer’s wife, Shannon Abloh said “The Dunks represent Virgil’s unique lens on art and culture, and this auction with Sotheby’s further aids in keeping his legacy alive.”
Bids will start at just $1 USD, and the online auction will be open from April 5th - April 14th. Head to Sotheby’s to find out more, and in the meantime check out Nike and sacai's newest efforts.
