Without a shadow of a doubt, Nike absolutely killed it this year. Crowned by Brand Finance as the most valuable apparel brand of 2019, it has been valued at over $32 billion - an all-time high for the Beaverton-based label. Dropping smash hit after smash hit, even the most loyal Three Stripes fan's head has been turned this year. While this may sound pretty crazy, we have to admit, we're not at all surprised.
With all that said, we've rounded up the ten hottest Nike collaborations of 2019. Choosing from hundreds of incredible releases, this was definitely not an easy task, so to make it a lot easier, we've picked just one shoe from each collaboration. So in order of release date, let's get to it.
Nike Air Fear Of God 1 "Light Bone"
Jerry Lorenzo kicked off another fire year of sneakers with the Nike Air Fear Of God 1 "Light Bone". His first collaboration with the Swoosh, it made its debut in January 2019 and was met with a ton of hype. While his other colourways definitely aren't as popular, this particular one is still a must-cop for many sneakerheads, with many praising its ultra clean design.
Nike Air Max Susan "Missing Link"
The Swoosh broke the internet when they unveiled the Nike Air Max Susan "Missing Link" in April 2019. Made in collaboration with stop motion animation studio Laika that's actually owned by Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his son Travis Knight, the sneaker is unlike anything else out there. Inspired by the creature from the film "Missing Link", this is as unique as it gets.
Cash Ru x Nike Air Max 97 "Shanghai Kaleidoscope"
The classic AM97 was completely reworked from the ground up with the Cash Ru x Nike Air Max 97 "Shanghai Kaleidoscope". Designed as part of the On Air competition in April 2019, it's inspired by the jewellery designer's impression of the clouds floating along Shanghai’s skyline as they shift and dissipate to create new forms and shapes.
Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 High "Cactus Jack"
You can't have a list with the hottest collabs of 2019 without mentioning the Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 High "Cactus Jack". Arguably one of the best sneakers of the entire decade, La Flame's AJ1 made its debut in May 2019, and even to this day, it's one of the highest reselling shoes of the year. With an earthy brown palette and a backwards Swoosh, what's there not to love?
Cactus Plant Flea Market x Nike Air VaporMax 2019 "Black"
Cynthia Lu turned the deconstruction trend up a notch with the Cactus Plant Flea Market x Nike Air VaporMax 2019 "Black" in May 2019, and sneakerheads everywhere fell in love immediately. Even though some were sceptical about the smiling emoji at the heel, the stitched on Swoosh made the shoe an icon. While this was a women's exclusive, it didn't stop guys from squeezing into a pair.
Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 "MCA"
The Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 "MCA" caused complete and utter havoc when it dropped in July 2019. Virgil Abloh's latest and greatest AF1, it was made in collaboration with the Museum Of Contemporary Art in Chicago, so it's safe to assume that it was extremely limited. With that said, these released at a random time out of nowhere, so many of you didn't get a chance to cop.
sacai x Nike LDWaffle "Black"
Hands down one of the most iconic sneakers of the decade, the sacai x Nike LDWaffle "Black" was deconstruction at its finest. While this definitely wasn't Chitose Abe's first take on the shoe, it's certainly her best one. With contrasting black and white panels, the hybrid aesthetic was further accentuated, resulting in a breathtaking sneaker that'll definitely go down in the history books.
PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Air Force 1 "Para-Noise"
Straight out from the military, K-pop legend G-Dragon got to work on the PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Air Force 1 "Para-Noise" in November 2019, and it completely disrupted the industry. With chunky laces and a leather that wears away over time, what's underneath is a bespoke piece of art created by GD himself.
fragment design x CLOT x Nike Air Force 1 "Black"
Edison Chen absolutely killed it this year. After release two AJ1s and two AF1s this year alone, it's safe to say that the fragment design x CLOT x Nike Air Force 1 "Black" is definitely the best of the lot. Made in collaboration with Hiroshi Fujiwara, this luxe silk number wore away over time, revealing a fiery red leather base that turned the heads of Three Stripes enthusiasts everywhere in November 2019.
A Ma Maniere x Nike Air Force 1 "Hand Wash Cold"
In case you haven't noticed already, the Swoosh completely smashed it with their AF1 silhouette this year, and they rounded off the decade with the incredible A Ma Maniere x Nike Air Force 1 "Hand Wash Cold" in December 2019. Limited to just 5,269 pairs, the felt, leather, and suede constructed was accented with a number of 3M elements, so you can flex both in the day and in the night.
