2018 has been absolutely INSANE for sneakers. This year, we saw the release of a slew of brand new silhouettes, including the incredible Sean Wotherspoon x Nike Air Max 97/1 and the breath taking adidas Yeezy 500. However, we also saw tonnes of restocks of sneakers that we though we’d never see again! That being said, we’ve compiled a list of the ten HOTTEST restocks of 2018! While you’re here, make sure you follow @thesolerestocks on Twitter for more fire restocks!
This was certainly unexpected. This year, we saw the third restock of the legendary adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 ‘Zebra’. Revealed back in June 2017, this sneaker boasts a predominantly white Primeknit upper and sits atop a uniquely shaped Boost midsole for additional comfort and a smoother stride. A complementary heel tab and laces round off the iconic striped design. Did you manage to cop third time around?
Every year we get many re-releases of some of Jordan Brand’s best sneakers, and this year we were not disappointed as we finally got another release of the Air Jordan 1 ‘Shadow’. Even though we have seen this pair drop many times before, it sold out in an instant. Painted in a versatile black and grey colour scheme, this shoe utilises the AJ1’s signature colour blocked aesthetic for a classic-meets-contemporary vibe.
When it was announced that the adidas Ultra Boost 1.0 ‘Cream’ was getting a restock, the sneaker community went wild. Arguably one of the best UB colourways EVER, this shoe made Boost what it is today. Painted in a tonal cream hue, a stretchy Primeknit material graces the upper, and a Continental outsole appears on the bottom for extra durability. A full length Boost midsole also offers endless comfort and a smoother stride.
The Air Jordan 5 has always played a MASSIVE part in the Jordan Brand story, and it was made even more famous when it was worn on ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’. This year, Jordan Brand paid respect to this by bringing back the iconic Air Jordan 5 ‘Fresh Prince’ which was worn by Will Smith on the hit sitcom. An ode to Smith‘s style, this AJ5 takes on a laceless look, while the rest of its design and palette remain true to its ’90s release.
Once the rarest Yeezy Boost 350 V2 colourway, the adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 ‘Semi Frozen Yellow’ finally got a restock this year! Utilising a full Primeknit upper, this eye-catching crep sits atop a uniquely shaped Boost midsole and is painted in a vibrant yellow hue, complete with zebra striping. To round it all off, this shoe receives the gum rubber treatment, making them perfect for the wet and windy months.
Although this isn’t technically a restock, we’ve included the Air Jordan 3 ‘Tinker’ due to its incredible backstory. A realisation of one of Tinker Hatfield’s earliest sketches of the AJ3, this sneaker is fully equipped with a lateral midfoot Swoosh and medial Nike branding – something that fans of the silhouette are not used to. Nike Air branding takes shape on the heel, while the legendary footwear designer’s signature comes emblazoned on the tongue.
When the adidas Yeezy Boost 700 ‘Wave Runner’ first released, everyone despised them, but now, everyone wants a pair, so when the restock hit sneakerheads everywhere went crazy. Featuring a hugely different look compared to Kanye West’s other creps, the Wave Runner is constructed from leather and mesh and sits atop a chunky Boost-infused midsole for additional comfort and a smoother stride. Did you manage to cop?
Does it get more classic than the Air Jordan 3 ‘Black Cement’? One of the most iconic Jordan Brand sneakers ever, the ‘Black Cement’ received another release this year and it was as popular as it was when it first dropped all those decades ago! A black and grey version of Michael Jordan’s third signature shoe, it is constructed of leather, and features the iconic elephant print and Air midsole.
In February 2015, adidas introduced the adidas Ultra Boost 1.0 ‘OG’. Regarded by many sneakerheads as one of the most iconic sneakers of all time and by many athletes as the best running shoe ever made, the legendary shoe finally got a restock this year! Although the minimalist colour scheme looks almost sedate compared to current iterations, it sold out in an instant, proving that Boost is FAR from dead!
This year saw the restock of the legendary Air Jordan 1 ‘Homage To Home’, which draws inspiration from both the ‘Bred’ and ‘Chicago’ AJ1s. Paying homage to 1985’s All-Star Weekend, where Michael Jordan laced up both the ‘Bred’ colourway to match his flight suit for the Slam Dunk Contest and the ‘Chicago’ for the All-Star Game, this marked the first and only time he would wear both shoes in a single weekend.
