The stuff of sneaker legend, the Tinker Hatfield-designed Air Trainer 1 is set to celebrate its 35th anniversary this year, and what better way to celebrate than with a retro release of one of the most iconic pairs originally made. The Air Trainer 1 “Chlorophyll” debuted in 1987 and was famously worn by tennis player John McEnroe, and has seen two retro releases in 2008 and 2012, as well as an SB version in 2020. This year it’s set to make a long-awaited comeback, and images of the 2022 pair have appeared online courtesy of @shanghaisole.
Boasting a super-clean white, grey, black and green colour scheme, the “Chlorophyll” Air Trainer 1 is a still a super-wearable pair that has managed to stand the test of time. A white leather base gives way to ultra-premium grey nubuck overlays, and a smart black leather mudguard and midfoot strap. Bright hints of green appear on the tongue, eyelets and heels, which are said to be inspired by the colour of some gym equipment from a Portland-area YMCA.
If you’re looking to own a piece of sneaker history, you won’t have to wait long to get your hands on a pair. The “Chlorophyll” Air Trainer 1 is set to land very soon, but until then be sure to download our app to stay up to date with all the latest sneaker news and releases.
