As part of adidas’ continued efforts to work towards sustainable manufacturing, the three stripe brand has just launched the Stan Smith Mylo, the first-ever sneaker to be crafted from recycled mushrooms. We’re not capping with this news (pun intended), the sneakers really are made from specially harvested mushrooms!
By using a material which has been dubbed Mylo (derived from Mycelium), the label is set to offer up the sneakers to consumers later on this year, challenging Nike’s sustainable efforts and offering a strong market alternative.
The classic silhouette takes on an off-white hue similar to natural mushrooms, although this is just for aesthetics, as adidas claim that Mylo can take on any desired colour. The Mycelium will be specially grown in a lab and then harvested to form a lattice of cells that will later be reinforced and crafted into sheets of supple fabric that both look and act like leather. The uppers of the sneaker resemble the classic Stan Smith appearance, with subtle three stripe branding on either side.
The brown outsole will be the only part of the sneakers not crafted from Mylo, instead opting for a natural rubber makeup for increased durability. Here at The Sole Supplier we’re hugely impressed with this innovation and are more than happy with how much sustainability is present in the sneaker world as of late! Make sure to keep it locked in right here for all the latest and check out the adidas Ultra Boost 6.0 while you’re here!
