It happens all the time: Nike returning to proven colour combinations and applying them to a different trainer. Think of the sheer number of times the Air Max 95 "Neon" has lent its palette to other performance and lifestyle silhouettes. Already this year, we’ve seen Sergio Lozano’s classic design make an impact on the Book 1 and the Zoom Superfly 10 Elite. Now, get ready to witness that famed colour story light up the Air Max 90 next year.
The "Neon" theme holds a significant place in Air Max history, and we must acknowledge its past appearances. Back in 2005, a collaboration between British artist Dave White and the retailer size? resulted in a highly sought after pack of Neon inspired Air Max trainers, including the Air Max 95, Air Max 90, Air Max 1, and Air Stab. Those pairs became some of the most desired collaborative Air Max editions ever, but this new iteration of the Air Max 90 definitely earns its own distinction.
We learned about this exciting development thanks to the reputable news broken by @am95ent and @bubblekoppe, who confirmed a Neon 95 inspired Air Max 90 is scheduled for a 2026 launch. We know the "Neon" colourway works on practically every model; just look at this year's Nike TL 2.5 for proof. This edition of Tinker Hatfield's legendary silhouette emerges from the shadows with an undeniable presence, wrapped in a dark energy. The pitch black uppers carry cuts of electric yellow accents that jump against panels of anthracite and charcoal. Touches of pearl grey introduce contrast, establishing a visual rhythm that pays homage to the trainer's foundational architecture.
We can argue that the neon dressing has already featured on the Air Max 90 silhouette, including 2021’s Grey Neon and last year’s AM90 Neon. However, this upcoming sneaker looks to be the most complete reimagination of the iconic Air Max 95 colour in a different style.
While this lifestyle footwear certainly draws from its Air Max 95 relative, it asserts its own identity. The trademark visible Air unit anchors every stride in cushioned sport comfort, while the colour application speaks to both heritage devotees and those seeking a contemporary aesthetic.
The new Air Max 90 uses a greyscale palette with Neon hits, but it introduces notable distinctions from the Dave White pair. Crucially, the toe and tongue arrives in grey, contrasting with the all black used previously. The lacing apparatus and TPU eyestays are rendered in white and grey. However, the neon shaded Swoosh, Air Max, and Nike Air logos occupy their expected positions. Below, the sole unit gets a coating of black with vivid pops of neon within the visible Air unit; a slight alteration from the grey and black finish on the 2005 version.
The Nike Air Max 90 "Black Neon" is expected to release on 6th March, 2026, hitting shelves at Nike and selected retailers both online and in store. Available in men's sizing, the retail price settles at £135. What are your thoughts on this latest application of the iconic "Neon" colourway? Will you be trying to grab a pair? For your best chance, make sure you smash that bell icon.
