After being teased for what seems like months, the eagerly-anticipated Nike Air Max Scorpion has now arrived. Showcasing a head-turning look, the kicks feature one of the biggest Air units ever and act as the first in a series of sneakers that demonstrate major evolution in Nike Air technology. Developed entirely through the pandemic, the Air Max Scorpion was conceptualised and created in just 18 months, with the entire team working together virtually.
Nike states that “the pace of creation was made possible through application of new VR design software and simulation tools allowing for real time, hand-in-hand collaboration between designers, engineers and developers through the pandemic. Embedded in the design are morphology data and pressure maps derived from the Nike Sports Research Lab (NSRL). Testing and prototyping were accelerated through both Finite Element Analysis (FEA), which assesses the system’s performance against real-world demands, and in-house rapid testing of virtual prototypes (or digital twins) that together dramatically reduced the need for, and environmental impact of, physical samples.”

Key features across the new silhouette include an optimal outsole traction pattern, strategic point-loaded contact points across the foot and a Flyknit chenille upper.
