As one of the biggest brands on the planet, it’s only right that Nike is taking serious action against climate change and has begun to put the world first. Back in September 2019 the Swoosh introduced the “Move to Zero” initiative, which encourages a move towards a more sustainable and greener future. The label aims to operate its facilities with 100% renewable energy by 2025 and reduce its CO2 emissions by 30% come 2030. As part of the initiative, the brand is also offering sneakers crafted using vegetable dyes and recycled materials in a bid to reduce waste.
Sneakers that make use of these eco-friendly methods are clearly marked with an orange “Sustainable Materials” badge on the Nike website, meaning if you’re looking to change your shopping habits to help tackle climate change it’s easier than ever. What’s even better is that some of the sneakers on offer are seriously tasty looking pairs, so you can still look the part too! We’ve picked out three of our personal highlights here at The Sole Supplier, so read on for more.
First up is the Nike Free Terra Vista in “Pure Platinum”. Introduced for the first time back in 2021, the trail running sneaker offers a rugged and utilitarian take on design, with key details including FlyLeather overlays, a tactical lacing system and pinwheel Swoosh branding on the tongues. Inspired by the outdoors but created for the city, these are the ideal kicks for the colder months of the year. They’re rounded off with recycled Grind Rubber midsoles that are reminiscent of the Free Run Trail, and are also crafted from up to 20% recycled content.
Ever since its introduction back in 2021, Nike’s Terrascape line has garnered the attention of sneakerheads around the world. Allegedly inspired by design traits from Virgil Abloh’s collaborative projects with the Swoosh, the pack has featured plenty of silhouettes since its inception, although none are quite as memorable as the Nike Air Max Terrascape Plus, seen here in “Off-Noir”. The timeless silhouette is reworked with contemporary details, and it’s also part of the Beaverton-brand’s Move to Zero line, meaning these are a guilt-free purchase!
Last but by no means least, the return of Flyknit technology has been welcomed by sneakerheads with open arms, as the Nike Air Max Flyknit Racer merges elements from the old-school Flyknit Racer and the Air Max Pre-Day. Seen here in the iconic “Oreo” colourway, the silhouette is sleek and easy to wear, and it’s also crafted from recycled yarn, making it part of the Move to Zero range. If you’re looking for a failsafe everyday option then they don’t get much cleaner than this!
